Brohex Syrup is used to loosen thick mucus and make chesty (productive) coughs easier to clear. It helps loosen and thin the mucus in conditions such as bronchitis, COPD and bronchiectasis where mucus is hard to clear.
It belongs to a group of medicines called mucolytics (expectorants), which break down thick, sticky mucus into a thinner form.
Drinking plenty of water while taking this syrup helps loosen the mucus and clear the chest. Steam inhalation and stopping smoking also support easier breathing alongside this medicine.
Tell your doctor about any history of stomach ulcers before starting, as mucolytics can sometimes irritate the stomach lining, and about other medicines you take. Stop the medicine and seek urgent help if you notice a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face, lips or throat.
