Actide 100mcg Injection is used for the following:

• Management of acromegaly

• Control of carcinoid tumour symptoms

• Stopping bleeding from enlarged oesophageal veins

• Relief of symptoms from neuroendocrine tumours

• Managing hormone-secreting gut tumours

• Control of excessive hormone production

• Management of VIPomas and gastrinomas

• Management of TSH-secreting pituitary adenomas

• Reducing portal blood pressure

• Controlling severe diarrhoea in specific conditions

Follow these instructions when Actide 100mcg Injection is administered:

• This medicine must only be administered by a qualified healthcare professional.

• The injection is administered through under-the-skin or into-the-muscle routes.

• Injection sites should be rotated to prevent skin tissue changes.

• The medicine should be at room temperature before administration.

• Do not use if the solution appears cloudy or contains particles.

Actide 100mcg Injection is administered via subcutaneous or intramuscular routes.

Actide 100mcg Injection contains octreotide (0.1 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Hormone inhibition: Octreotide mimics the natural hormone somatostatin in your body, binding to specific receptors to block the release of several hormones, including growth hormone, insulin, and glucagon.

• Growth hormone reduction: It specifically targets and decreases excessive growth hormone production from the pituitary gland, helping to control symptoms of acromegaly.

• Blood flow regulation: Octreotide reduces blood flow to the digestive organs, which helps control bleeding from enlarged veins in the oesophagus.

• Digestive hormone control: It inhibits the release of various hormones from the digestive system, helping to manage symptoms like diarrhoea and flushing associated with certain tumours.

• Vasoactive peptide suppression: The medicine blocks the release of substances called vasoactive intestinal peptides that can cause severe diarrhoea in certain conditions.

• Store unopened vials in a refrigerator between 2 and 8°C.

• Protect from light exposure and freezing.

• Keep all medicines out of reach of children.

• Use before the expiry date printed on the package.

• Dispose of used injection materials properly.

• If you have acromegaly (a condition where your body produces too much growth hormone), maintain a balanced diet low in refined carbohydrates to help manage blood glucose levels that may be affected by both the condition and octreotide therapy.

• For those with carcinoid tumours, consider avoiding foods that trigger flushing episodes (such as alcohol, spicy foods, and aged cheeses), as these can worsen symptoms that Actide 100mcg Injection helps control.
