Acivir 200 DT Tablet is used to treat infections caused by the herpes simplex virus, such as cold sores and genital herpes, and by the varicella zoster virus, such as chickenpox and shingles. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing aciclovir 200mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called antivirals.
This medicine stops the virus from multiplying, helping sores heal faster and reducing pain; it works best when started as early as possible. It is also used to prevent repeated herpes outbreaks, especially in people with a weakened immune system. The dispersible tablet can be swallowed or mixed in water. Take it at evenly spaced times, often several times a day, and complete the course prescribed.
Drinking plenty of water during treatment helps protect the kidneys. Keep sores clean and dry, avoid touching them, and avoid sexual contact during a genital herpes outbreak to reduce spread.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or a weakened immune system, and about other medicines you take. Older adults and people with kidney problems may need a lower dose. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you pass much less urine, or notice confusion, unusual drowsiness, shaking or hallucinations. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
