Zaha 1% Eye Ointment is used to treat bacterial eye infections, such as bacterial conjunctivitis. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing azithromycin 1%, and belongs to a class of medicines called macrolide antibiotics.
This medicine works by inhibiting protein synthesis in bacteria, binding to a specific part of bacterial cells known as the 50S ribosomal subunit, which stops the bacteria from multiplying and eliminates infection-causing bacteria to relieve symptoms like redness, swelling, discharge, and irritation.
Apply the ointment directly into the affected eye as advised by your doctor. Avoid touching the applicator tip to prevent contamination and continue use for the full prescribed duration for best results.
Tell your doctor if you have any known allergy to macrolide antibiotics before starting this ointment, and report any worsening symptoms after a few days of treatment.
