Prucolpride 1 Mg Tablet is a medicine used to treat long-standing (chronic) constipation in adults, particularly when laxatives have not given enough relief. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing prucalopride, and belongs to a class of medicines called 5-HT4 receptor agonists.
This medicine works by stimulating 5-HT4 receptors in the gut, which improves the natural movement of the bowel and helps stools pass more easily. It is used for chronic idiopathic constipation and slow transit constipation. Take it as prescribed by your doctor, with or without food, and swallow it whole. It may take a few days for your bowel movements to improve, so continue for the period your doctor recommends.
Drinking plenty of water, eating a fibre-rich diet with fruits, vegetables and wholegrains, and staying physically active can further support regular bowel movements alongside this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, or any bowel condition such as a blockage or severe inflammation, and about all other medicines you take. Ask your doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Seek urgent help for severe stomach pain or bleeding from the rectum.
