Sulfasalaz 1000 Tablet is used to manage ulcerative colitis, a condition that causes inflammation and sores in the colon and rectum. It is also used to manage rheumatoid arthritis in adults and children and may be used in Crohn's disease. It helps reduce inflammation in the bowel and joints.
It contains sulfasalazine and belongs to a group of medicines called aminosalicylates. It works by reducing inflammation, which helps ease symptoms and prevent the disease from worsening. Take it as directed by your doctor and continue for the duration prescribed, even if you feel better.
Some general measures can help alongside this medicine. These include drinking enough fluids, protecting your skin from strong sunlight, and attending the regular blood tests your doctor arranges.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any kidney or liver problems, a sulfa allergy, or other medicines you take. Your doctor may check your blood counts and liver function during treatment. The medicine can turn urine or skin colour into orange-yellow, and a temporary fall in sperm count can occur in men. Continue taking it for the full duration prescribed, and do not stop it without medical advice.
