Odoxil DS Syrup is a cephalosporin antibiotic medicine primarily prescribed to treat bacterial infections in children. It is used for upper respiratory infections (throat infections, tonsillitis, ear infections), lower respiratory infections (bronchitis, pneumonia), skin infections, and urinary tract infections.

It contains cefadroxil. Administer the syrup using a proper measuring device as instructed by your child's doctor. Give it for the full duration prescribed, even if your child feels better after a few days.

Encourage your child to rest and drink plenty of fluids to support their recovery during an infection.

Inform the doctor if your child has kidney disease, allergies to cephalosporins or penicillins, or asthma. Contact your child's doctor if your child develops a severe skin rash, continuous diarrhoea, or swelling.

Odoxil DS Syrup is used in paediatric care to treat common bacterial infections affecting different body systems.

Uses of Odoxil DS Syrup are:

Give your child Odoxil DS Syrup by following these steps:

Before use, reconstitute the dry powder by shaking the bottle gently to loosen it. Add about 15 ml of boiled and cooled water. Shake until all the powder is in suspension. Add more water to make up to 30 mL. Shake well again.
Shake the reconstituted bottle well before each use.
Use the provided measuring cup for accurate dosing.
Give this medicine to your child, with or without food.
This medicine is sugar-based and needs caution for use in diabetic patients. If you have diabetes, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Remember to discard the suspension after 14 days of reconstitution.

Odoxil DS Syrup contains cefadroxil (500 mg), which works on your child's body in the following ways:

Bacterial cell wall synthesis inhibition: Cefadroxil operates by binding to and inactivating certain proteins (Penicillin-Binding Proteins, or PBPs) found on the inner membrane of bacterial cell walls. These PBPs play a vital role in the formation of peptidoglycan, a key component required for maintaining the structure of bacterial cell walls.
Bacterial cell death: By inhibiting these PBPs, cefadroxil interferes with the processes of peptidoglycan synthesis and cross-linking. This weakens the bacterial cell wall, leading to cell lysis, a process where the cell wall ruptures, causing death of the bacteria.
