CompositionMisoprost-200 Tablet is used, under medical supervision, together with mifepristone to end an early pregnancy (medical termination of pregnancy). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing misoprostol, which belongs to a class of medicines called prostaglandins.
This medicine is also used to prevent and treat heavy bleeding after childbirth. Take it exactly as your doctor directs; the dose, timing and way of taking it depend on why it is prescribed.
After using it to end a pregnancy, rest, drink plenty of fluids, use sanitary pads rather than tampons, and make sure you can reach medical help easily during the days of bleeding. Keep all follow-up appointments.
This medicine can cause miscarriage and birth defects, so it must never be taken during a wanted pregnancy, and women taking it for stomach protection must use effective contraception. It should be used for ending a pregnancy only under a registered doctor. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have an intrauterine device (coil), a suspected ectopic pregnancy, a bleeding disorder, anaemia, inflammatory bowel disease, or heart or blood vessel disease. Seek urgent medical help if you soak two or more pads an hour for two hours in a row, or have severe abdominal pain, fever lasting more than 24 hours, foul-smelling discharge, or feel faint. Follow your doctor's instructions for the full course of treatment.
