Mactor 10 Tablet is used to lower high cholesterol and triglycerides and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing atorvastatin 10mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called statins.
This medicine lowers LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides and raises HDL (good) cholesterol. The 10mg strength is often used as a starting dose, or to protect people at raised risk of heart disease, such as those with type 2 diabetes or high blood pressure. It is also used in inherited high cholesterol. Take it once a day at the same time, with or without food.
Swapping fried and processed food for vegetables, whole grains and fish, staying active and keeping a healthy weight help lower cholesterol.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, an underactive thyroid, kidney problems, muscle problems, diabetes, or drink a lot of alcohol, and about other medicines you take, especially certain antibiotics, antifungals, HIV medicines, ciclosporin and other cholesterol medicines. Your doctor may check your liver with blood tests. Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine, straight away. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
