Macpod-50 Oral Suspension contains Cefpodoxime Proxetil (50 mg), which works on your child's body in the following ways:

• Inhibits Bacterial Cell Wall Synthesis: Cefpodoxime Proxetil works by blocking penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. These proteins play a crucial role in forming the bacterial cell wall.

• Causes Cell Lysis: By inhibiting these proteins, Cefpodoxime Proxetil prevents the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for maintaining the strength and rigidity of the bacterial cell wall. This action weakens the bacterial cell wall and causes cell lysis, a process where the cell bursts due to an imbalance of osmotic pressure.

• Prodrug Mechanism: Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug that is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and de-esterified to its active metabolite, cefpodoxime. This means that it becomes active only after it is metabolised within your child's body, allowing for more efficient absorption and distribution.

• Keep Macpod-50 Oral Suspension in a cool place at a temperature below 30°C.

• After mixing, you can keep it at room temperature or in the fridge (2° to 8°C) for up to 14 days or 21 days, respectively.
