Korandil 5 Tablet is used to prevent and treat angina.

Uses of Korandil 5 Tablet are:

• Angina: Prevents and treats the chest pain of angina.
• Blood Flow: Improves blood flow to the heart muscle.
• Heart Workload: Eases the heart's workload during exertion.

Follow these instructions while taking Korandil 5 Tablet:

• This medicine should be taken orally, as directed by your doctor.

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water, either with or without food.

• Try to take this medication at the same times each day to maintain consistent blood levels.

• Abrupt discontinuation should be avoided as it may worsen angina symptoms. Any changes in dosage or cessation of treatment should be done under medical supervision.

Korandil 5 Tablet contains nicorandil (5 mg) working in the body through two distinct mechanisms:

• ATP-sensitive Potassium Channels Activation: Nicorandil enhances the opening of ATP-sensitive potassium channels in vascular smooth muscles. This leads to hyperpolarization and relaxation of these muscles, thereby decreasing peripheral resistance and the load on the heart.

• Nitrate-like Effect: Nicorandil acts similar to nitrates, releasing nitric oxide (NO). This stimulates an enzyme named guanylate cyclase which boosts cGMP levels, triggering vasodilation of coronary arteries and systemic veins. Consequently, vasodilation reduces preload, while coronary dilation improves blood supply to the heart muscle.

  The combined effect of these mechanisms assists in lowering cardiac workload and oxygen demand while increasing oxygen supply to the heart muscle, offering relief from anginal pain.
