CompositionIvabid 5 Tablet 10 is used to treat chronic heart failure and to prevent chest pain from stable angina in adults whose resting heart rate stays high. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ivabradine, which belongs to a class of medicines called heart rate-lowering agents (If channel inhibitors).
This medicine slows the heart rate without lowering blood pressure much, reducing the heart's workload and oxygen needs. It is used alongside other heart medicines, often when beta blockers are not suitable or have not lowered the heart rate enough. Take it with meals, as prescribed; your doctor will check your heart rate and adjust the dose.
Not smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying active within your limits and limiting alcohol support heart health. Take care when driving at night or in changing light until you know how any visual effects affect you.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant or could become pregnant and are not using effective contraception, or if you are breastfeeding. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have a very slow resting heart rate, atrial fibrillation or other rhythm problems, low blood pressure, recent stroke, severe liver disease, or eye disease of the retina, and about all other medicines you take, especially heart rhythm medicines, diltiazem, verapamil and certain antibiotics or antifungals. Avoid grapefruit juice. Seek medical help if you notice a very slow or irregular heartbeat, chest pain, fainting or palpitations. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
