CompositionIcos 1g Capsule 2 is a lipid-lowering medicine used to manage high triglyceride levels in the blood. It is a single-ingredient omega-3 fatty acid medicine containing icosapent ethyl, and belongs to a class of medicines called omega-3 fatty acid derivatives.
This medicine works by reducing the amount of triglycerides made by the liver and released into the blood. It is also used alongside a statin to help reduce the risk of major heart events in suitable high-risk adults with raised triglycerides and either established heart disease or diabetes with other heart risk factors. Swallow the capsule whole with food, as your doctor prescribes.
Limiting sugary foods, refined carbohydrates, fried food and alcohol, and staying physically active, can help lower triglyceride levels alongside this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to fish or shellfish, have liver problems, an irregular heartbeat, bleeding problems, or take blood thinning medicines. Also tell them if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding, and seek help for a fast or irregular heartbeat.
