Icosapent Ethyl (1000 Mg)

Icos 1g Capsule 2 is used to manage high triglyceride levels. It is a single-ingredient omega-3 fatty acid derivative medicine containing icosapent ethyl.

This medicine helps reduce very high triglyceride levels in the blood. It also helps reduce the risk of major heart events when used alongside statin therapy in suitable high-risk adults with elevated triglyceride levels and established cardiovascular disease or diabetes with additional cardiovascular risk factors.

Before starting, tell your doctor about your medical conditions and allergies. Tell the doctor about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Report persistent or serious side effects to your doctor. Do not stop taking or using the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.

Uses of Icos 1g Capsule 2 are:

High Triglycerides: Helps reduce very high triglyceride levels in the blood.
Cardiovascular Risk Support: Helps reduce the risk of major heart events when used alongside statin therapy in suitable high-risk adults with elevated triglyceride levels and established cardiovascular disease or diabetes with additional cardiovascular risk factors.

Follow these instructions while taking Icos 1g Capsule 2:

Take the capsule exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the capsule whole with water.
Take with food as advised by your doctor.
Take at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.

Icos 1g Capsule 2 is taken orally.

Icos 1g Capsule 2 may cause some side effects that are usually mild and go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.

A few common side effects of Icos 1g Capsule 2:

Digestive: diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal discomfort.
Musculoskeletal: Arthralgia (joint pain).
Other: gout flare in susceptible individuals.

If any side effect does not improve or becomes serious, speak to your doctor. Do not stop taking the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.

Management Of Side Effects:

Most side effects of Icos 1g Capsule 2 are usually mild and tend to settle as your body gets used to the medicine. Speak to your doctor if any symptoms continue or become troublesome.

Tips that may help include:

Diarrhoea or stomach discomfort: Take the capsule with meals, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid very oily or spicy foods.
Nausea: Eating smaller, lighter meals and taking the medicine with food may help.

Icos 1g Capsule 2 contains the active component:

Icosapent ethyl (1000 mg): This is a highly purified omega-3 fatty acid derivative. Once taken, the body converts it into eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), an active omega-3 fatty acid. EPA works by reducing the amount of triglycerides produced by the liver and by helping the body remove triglyceride-rich particles from the bloodstream more efficiently. This leads to a gradual reduction in overall triglyceride levels. In addition to lowering triglycerides, clinical studies have shown that when this medicine is taken along with statin therapy, it can help reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in certain high-risk adults with elevated triglycerides.

Pregnancy

Icos 1g Capsule 2 should be used during pregnancy only if clearly advised by your doctor. The effects on the unborn baby are not fully established, so your doctor will weigh potential benefits against possible risks.

Breastfeeding

Over Dose

Taking more than the prescribed dose of Icos 1g Capsule 2 may increase the risk of side effects such as diarrhoea, joint pain, or increased bleeding tendency. If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue your regular schedule. Do not double up to make up for a missed dose.
