Glibenclamide (5 Mg) + Metformin (500 Mg)

Glucored Forte Tablet is used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet, exercise, and metformin alone do not achieve normal blood sugar levels. It helps control high blood sugar, reduces the risk of diabetes-related complications, and supports overall metabolic health. It belongs to the group of medicines called anti-diabetics.

This tablet helps maintain normal blood sugar levels in the blood. It is not intended for type 1 diabetes, in which the body produces little insulin.

Some side effects may be noted with the use of this tablet, which should be timely informed to a doctor. Any allergy to this tablet, existing diseases and other ongoing medications should also be brought to the notice of your doctor before this tablet is prescribed to you.

Glucored Forte Tablet is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. This combination of Glibenclamide and Metformin helps control blood sugar levels by improving insulin sensitivity. When taken alongside a healthy diet and regular exercise, it effectively manages glucose levels, making it a crucial part of diabetes treatment for adults.

Swallow Glucored Forte Tablet whole with a glass of water.
Do not crush or chew tablet, as this may affect the way the medication is absorbed in the body.
Do not change your tablet dose or take them more often than prescribed.

Glucored Forte Tablet is taken orally.

The common side effects of Glucored Forte Tablet include:

Upset stomach
Diarrhoea
Nausea
Low blood glucose (hypoglycemia)

Managing the Side Effects:

Most of the above-mentioned side effects resolve on discontinuing the tablet and are temporary and, in most cases, do not require medical attention. If you experience hypoglycemia symptoms, such as shakiness or dizziness, consume fruit juice, candy, or glucose tablets. If any of the side effects are severe or persistent, consult your doctor.

Glucored Forte Tablet contains the following ingredients:

Glibenclamide (5 mg): It belongs to a class of drugs called sulfonylureas. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin. Insulin is a hormone that helps the body use glucose from the blood. In people with type 2 diabetes, there is either insufficient insulin production or the body's cells become resistant to insulin's effects, leading to high blood sugar levels. Glibenclamide helps to lower blood sugar levels by increasing insulin secretion from the pancreas.
Metformin (500 mg): It is a biguanide that decreases glucose production in the liver and improves insulin sensitivity in muscle and fat cells. The body can better use insulin to transport glucose into cells, reducing blood sugar levels. It also helps to lower the amount of glucose absorbed from the gut.

Pregnancy

Glucored Forte Tablet is not recommended during pregnancy due to the risk of foetal harm. Do not take this tablet during pregnancy until prescribed by a doctor.

Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding women should not take Glucored Forte Tablet. It can pass into the nursing infant through breast milk. Before taking this tablet while breastfeeding, it is recommended to consult a doctor.

Alcohol

It is not recommended to consume alcohol while taking Glucored Forte Tablet. Alcohol can lower blood sugar and may increase your risk of lactic acidosis (accumulation of lactic acid in the body).

Liver

Glucored Forte Tablet are not recommended in patients with liver disease. If you have liver disease, inform your doctor before taking this tablet.

Kidney

Patients with severe kidney dysfunction should not take this tablet. Patients with mild to moderate kidney dysfunction should cautiously take this tablet. If you have kidney dysfunction, it is better to consult your doctor before taking this tablet.

Using Machines & Driving

Glucored Forte Tablet may affect your ability to operate machinery or drive a vehicle. You may experience dizziness after taking this tablet. Avoiding any attentive task is recommended after taking this tablet.

Allergy

Allergic reactions to Glucored Forte Tablet are rare. But if you are allergic to glibenclamide or metformin, you should not take this tablet. To avoid allergic reactions, read the label and check the ingredients before taking this tablet.

Children

Glucored Forte Tablet is not intended for children less than 18 years of age.

Older Patients

Older patients with kidney dysfunction should take Glucored Forte Tablet cautiously. They may also take other medications that can interact with this tablet. Inform your doctor and discuss your prescription medications before taking this medicine.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Glucored Forte Tablet can interact with medications, including:

Antihypertensives such as captopril, enalapril, lisinopril, furosemide, nifedipine, and losartan. These medications can reduce the hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) effect of this tablet.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) medicines such as bosentan. There is an increased risk of liver enzyme elevations in patients who simultaneously take both medications.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as aspirin. The hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) effect of this tablet can reduced by NSAIDs.
Antibacterials such as chloramphenicol and ciprofloxacin. These medications can reduce the hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) effect of this tablet.
Anti-gout medications such as probenecid. The hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) effect of this tablet can reduced by probenecid.
Antidepressants such as fluoxetine can cause the hypoglycemic (low blood sugar) effect when taken with this medicine.
Cholesterol-lowering medications such as colesevelam can reduce the absorption of this tablet in the gastrointestinal tract.
Antifungal medications such as miconazole. The concomitant use can lead to severe hypoglycemia or low blood sugar.
Antianginal agents such as ranolazine. It can reduce the clearance of this tablet from the body.
Cancer medications such as vandetanib. It can reduce the clearance of this tablet from the body.
HIV infection medications such as dolutegravir. It can reduce the clearance of this tablet from the body.
Stomach acid reducers such as cimetidine. It can reduce the clearance of this tablet from the body.
Diuretics such as furosemide increase the blood sugar levels when consumed with this tablet.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Glucored Forte Tablet can interact with diseases, including:

Severe kidney dysfunction: This tablet is excreted via the kidney. If you have reduced kidney function, your doctor may need to adjust the dosage of this tablet.
Lactic acidosis: This tablet may cause lactic acidosis as a side effect and worsen the condition.
Hypoglycemia: This tablet may cause hypoglycemia and worsen the existing condition.

Daily Dose

Take the daily dose of Glucored Forte Tablet as your doctor directs. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

If you take an excessive amount of Glucored Forte Tablet by accident, it is essential to get immediate medical attention from your doctor or nearby hospital. Symptoms of an overdose include upset stomach, diarrhoea, nausea, and low blood sugar.

Missed Dose

If you forgot to take Glucored Forte Tablet, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for the next dosage is close, it is recommended to skip the missed one now and resume your regular dosage pattern. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.

Store this medicine at room temperature.
Protect it from light and moisture.
Keep Glucored Forte Tablet away from children.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.

Limit the intake of refined carbohydrates, sugary beverages, processed snacks, and high-fat foods.
Choose complex carbohydrates with a lower glycemic index, such as whole grains, legumes, and non-starchy vegetables.
Distribute your carbohydrate intake evenly throughout the day to help manage blood sugar levels.
Take a brisk walk or indulge in a moderate-intensity workout such as swimming or cycling.
Regularly monitor your blood sugar levels as advised by your doctor. Keep track of your readings and make necessary lifestyle adjustments.
