Febutaz 80 Tablet is used for the long-term management of gout in adults with chronic hyperuricaemia, helping to prevent recurrent gout attacks and joint damage, particularly in people who cannot take allopurinol or when allopurinol is not effective.
It contains febuxostat (80 mg), a xanthine oxidase inhibitor. Take it as prescribed; continue even if a gout attack occurs. Do not start this medicine during an acute gout attack.
Staying well hydrated, limiting alcohol and purine-rich foods and keeping to all monitoring appointments for uric acid and liver function support effective treatment alongside this medicine.
Tell your doctor about any history of cardiovascular disease, kidney or liver problems before starting. A temporary increase in gout attacks is common when starting; prophylaxis with colchicine or an NSAID may be prescribed. Report chest pain, shortness of breath or signs of liver problems.
