Febutaz 80 Tablet is used for the long-term management of gout in adults with chronic high uric acid levels (hyperuricaemia), helping to prevent recurrent gout attacks and joint damage. It is particularly useful for people who cannot take allopurinol.
Febutaz contains febuxostat, which works by blocking xanthine oxidase, an enzyme involved in producing uric acid in the body, thereby lowering blood uric acid levels over time and reducing the risk of gout flares and urate crystal deposits in the joints.
Take this tablet as prescribed, with or without food, exactly as your doctor prescribes, and continue even if you feel well, since it works to prevent future attacks rather than to relieve pain during a current one.
Gout attacks can become more frequent in the first few months of treatment as stored uric acid crystals are mobilised, so do not stop the medicine on your own if this happens; your doctor may prescribe a short course of anti-inflammatory medicine to cover this period. Tell your doctor if you have heart disease, as febuxostat has been linked with a higher risk of cardiovascular events in some patients, and report any chest pain or shortness of breath promptly.
