• Monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) such as phenelzine or selegiline: Concurrent use may lead to serious reactions such as serotonin syndrome, severe agitation, fever, or excessive central nervous system stimulation due to increased effects of dextromethorphan. • Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) such as fluoxetine: Concomitant use with dextromethorphan may increase the risk of serotonin syndrome, which may present with symptoms such as confusion, tremors, sweating, agitation, or rapid heartbeat.
