Elobetra 5 Tablet 10

Elobetra 5 Tablet is used to manage chronic constipation in adults. Uses of Elobetra 5 Tablet are:

• Chronic constipation: This medicine helps increase the frequency of bowel movements and softens stools in people with long-term constipation. It is not meant for constipation caused by physical blockages or other diseases affecting the intestines.

Follow these instructions whilst taking Elobetra 5 Tablet:

• Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

• Take this medicine before a meal, preferably before breakfast.

• Avoid crushing or chewing the tablet.

• Do not take more than the recommended dose without consulting your doctor.

• Do not stop taking this medicine without speaking to your doctor first.

Elobetra 5 Tablet is taken orally.

Elobetra 5 Tablet contains elobixibat (5 mg), which works on the body as follows:

• Inhibits ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT): Elobixibat blocks a specific protein called the ileal bile acid transporter, which is found on the surface of cells in the terminal ileum (the last section of the small intestine). This transporter normally reabsorbs bile acids from the intestinal contents back into the body.

• Increases bile acids in the colon: By blocking the ileal bile acid transporter, elobixibat increases the amount of bile acid that reaches the colon (large intestine). These bile acids stimulate the secretion of water and electrolytes (minerals such as sodium and chloride) into the intestinal lumen (the space inside the intestine).

• Promotes colonic motility: The increased bile acids in the colon also stimulate smooth muscle activity and propulsion in the intestinal wall, helping move contents through the digestive system more effectively. This results in softer stools and more frequent bowel movements.

• Store Elobetra 5 Tablet at a temperature not exceeding 30°C.

• Keep the medicine in its original blister packaging to protect it from excessive heat and moisture.

• Always store the medicine out of reach of children.

• Do not use the medicine after its expiry date printed on the package.

• Increase your fibre intake: Eat more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and pulses to add bulk to your stools and help your bowels move more regularly, which supports the medicine's action in managing chronic constipation.

• Drink plenty of water: Drink adequate fluids to support hydration and bowel function, unless your doctor has advised you to restrict your fluid intake.
