Doxt-SL Capsule is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the chest, urinary tract and skin, acne, and certain other infections such as chlamydia, scrub typhus and Lyme disease. It is a combination medicine containing doxycycline 100mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called tetracycline antibiotics, and lactic acid bacillus, a probiotic.
This medicine works by stopping bacteria from making the proteins they need to grow, which allows the body to clear the infection, while the probiotic helps support healthy gut bacteria. Swallow the capsule whole with a full glass of water while sitting or standing, and stay upright for at least 30 minutes afterwards to avoid irritating the food pipe.
Do not take it at the same time as milk, antacids, or iron, calcium or zinc supplements; leave a gap of two to three hours. Doxycycline makes the skin more sensitive to sunlight, so use sunscreen and cover up outdoors. Complete the full course even if you feel better early.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems or myasthenia gravis, or take blood thinners, retinoid acne medicines or seizure medicines. It must not be taken during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or given to children under 12. Stop and contact your doctor if you get pain on swallowing, a severe headache with blurred vision, or severe diarrhoea.
