Desirox 500 Tablet 30 is used to manage chronic iron overload caused by frequent blood transfusions in people with conditions such as thalassaemia, sickle cell anaemia, and other disorders requiring repeated transfusions. It contains deferasirox, an iron chelator that binds excess iron in the body.
This tablet is also used in people with non-transfusion-dependent thalassaemia syndromes who have excess iron in the body. It binds the excess iron and helps remove it through the stool, reducing the risk of iron-related damage to organs such as the liver, heart, and pancreas. Take it as prescribed by your doctor. Continue treatment for as long as your doctor recommends, as iron overload can build up again if the medicine is stopped.
Alongside this medicine, your doctor may recommend regular blood tests to monitor your iron levels, kidney function, and liver function. Avoid taking antacids at the same time as this medicine unless your doctor advises otherwise, as this may affect how it works.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems, stomach ulcers, or are taking other medicines. Tell your doctor if you notice reduced urination, dark urine, unusual bleeding, stomach pain, or yellowing of the skin or eyes, as these may need urgent attention.
