CompositionCiplar-LA 20 Tablet is used to treat high blood pressure and angina (chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart), to help control certain irregular heart rhythms, and to prevent migraine attacks. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing propranolol in a long-acting form, and belongs to a class of medicines called beta blockers.
This medicine works by slowing the heart rate and blocking the effect of stress hormones on the heart and blood vessels, which reduces the heart's workload and lowers blood pressure. Take it at the same time, swallowed whole without crushing or chewing, as directed by your doctor.
It can also ease physical symptoms of anxiety, such as shaking and a fast heartbeat. Do not stop taking it suddenly, as this can make angina worse or trigger a heart attack; your doctor will reduce the dose slowly if it needs to be stopped.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, as it can hide the signs of low blood sugar, or heart failure, a very slow pulse, circulation problems, thyroid disease or depression. Do not take it if you have asthma or a history of wheezing, as it can cause a severe asthma attack. Contact your doctor if you become breathless, wheezy or very dizzy.
