CompositionBrakke Tablet is used to treat gut infections caused by a mix of bacteria and parasites, which lead to diarrhoea, dysentery and stomach cramps. It is a combination medicine containing ofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, and ornidazole, an antiprotozoal medicine.
This medicine is also used for some gynaecological infections, such as pelvic infections, where both types of germs may be present. Take the tablet with food to reduce stomach upset, and complete the full course prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better early.
Drinking oral rehydration solution (ORS) and clean fluids, and eating light, easily digested meals, can support recovery from gut infections. Avoid alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours afterwards.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have tendon problems, epilepsy or another nervous system disorder, liver disease, a heart rhythm problem, or myasthenia gravis, and about other medicines you take. It is not usually recommended for children or during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Stop taking it and contact your doctor straight away if you get tendon pain or swelling, tingling or numbness, or severe diarrhoea. Do not stop taking this medicine for any other reason unless your doctor advises you to do so.
