Glyciphage SR 500mg Tablet is a medicine used to manage type 2 diabetes in adults by helping to control blood sugar levels. It is also used in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to help regulate menstrual cycles and support hormonal balance.
It belongs to a group of medicines called biguanides. It works by improving the body's response to insulin, reducing the glucose made by the liver, and lowering the amount of sugar absorbed from food. It is usually taken with food to reduce the chance of stomach upset. Continue taking it regularly even when you feel well, and do not stop it without medical advice.
Diet and lifestyle play an important part in managing these conditions alongside this medicine. These include eating regular balanced meals, limiting sugary foods and drinks, staying physically active, and maintaining a healthy weight.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any kidney or liver problems or other medicines you take. If you are due to have an X-ray or scan using a contrast dye, or an operation, tell your doctor, as this medicine may need to be paused. Tell your doctor straight away about unusual muscle pain or difficulty breathing.
