Biocilin 500 Capsule is used for managing bacterial infections including pneumonia, bronchitis, pharyngitis, otitis media, sinusitis, urinary tract infections, typhoid fever, meningitis, endocarditis, bacteraemia, and skin and soft tissue infections.

Biocilin 500 Capsule 10 contains ampicillin (500 mg), which works in your body in the following ways:

• Inhibits Bacterial Cell Wall Synthesis: Ampicillin targets and neutralises penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). These proteins are essential for creating the bacterial cell wall structure.

• Leads to Cell Lysis: By inhibiting PBPs, ampicillin weakens bacteria's cell walls. This causes cell lysis, which eventually results in bacterial death.

• Broad-Spectrum Antibiotic: Ampicillin shows activity against both gram-positive bacteria like Streptococcus and gram-negative organisms such as E. coli. However, some resistant bacteria may produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate ampicillin.
