Ampilon 500 Mg Capsule 10 is an antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including infections of the chest, ears, nose, throat, urinary tract and skin. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ampicillin, and belongs to a class of medicines called penicillin antibiotics.
This medicine works by killing the bacteria causing the infection, stopping them from building their protective cell walls. It is also used for typhoid fever, meningitis and heart valve infection (endocarditis) when prescribed by a doctor. Swallow the capsule whole with water, ideally on an empty stomach, about one hour before or two hours after food, and use the dose and duration your doctor prescribes.
Complete the full course even if you feel better, as stopping early can let the infection return. Drink plenty of fluids while you are being treated.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics, have kidney problems, or are taking other medicines, and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It works only against bacterial infections, and using antibiotics when they are not needed can lead to antibiotic resistance.
