Biocef 2g Injection 1 is an antibiotic injection used to treat a broad range of bacterial infections, including those of the lungs, skin, urinary tract, ears, blood, bones and joints, abdomen and the membranes covering the brain (meningitis). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ceftriaxone, and belongs to a class of medicines called cephalosporin antibiotics.
This medicine works by stopping bacteria from building their cell walls, which kills the bacteria causing the infection. It is also used to treat gonorrhoea and pelvic inflammatory disease, and can be given before certain surgeries to prevent infection afterwards. It is given by a doctor or healthcare professional into a muscle or a vein, and the dose and duration are decided by your doctor.
Antibiotics only work against bacterial infections, so complete the full course your doctor prescribes even if you feel better earlier. Drinking enough fluids and getting plenty of rest can help your body recover alongside the treatment.
Before receiving this medicine, tell your doctor if you have ever had an allergic reaction to cephalosporin or penicillin antibiotics, or if you have any other long-term conditions or take other medicines. Tell your doctor or nurse straight away if you develop a rash, swelling of the face or lips, or difficulty breathing.
