Dosage Forms Available

• Ceftriaxone can be taken intramuscularly or intravenously (injection).

Age and Dose Restrictions

• It is intended for both adults and children with an appropriate dose.

Contraindications

• The medication is not recommended in patients with a known allergy to Ceftriaxone.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Avoid taking other antibiotics (vancomycin), leukemia medications (amsacrine), aminoglycosides (gentamicin, amikacin, tobramycin, neomycin, and streptomycin), antifungals (fluconazole), and calcium-containing products. These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of Ceftriaxone.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdosing on the dose is unlikely to occur since this medication will be administered in injection form by a healthcare professional.
• If you forget to take this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. But avoid repeating the dose.

Management of Side Effects

• Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Ceftriaxone may cause dizziness as a side effect. If you experience any such effects that may impair your ability to drive, avoiding driving or performing tasks requiring mental alertness is recommended.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Caution is advised while taking this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Caution is advised in patients with severe diarrhoea, hemolytic anemia, gallbladder disease, pancreatitis,  low vitamin K levels and kidney and liver impairment. 
• Ceftriaxone for Injection with dextrose-containing solutions should be used cautiously in diabetes mellitus patients or those with a carbohydrate intolerance history.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Avoid alcohol consumption while receiving Ceftriaxone injections, as it may reduce the antibiotic’s effectiveness and increase the risk of side effects.
• Follow the prescribed dosage strictly as directed by your doctor. Even if you start feeling better, do not skip doses or stop the medication early, as this could lead to antibiotic resistance and infection recurrence.
• Consume probiotic-rich foods to help restore gut flora, which may be disrupted due to antibiotic treatment. This can help prevent digestive issues like diarrhoea and bloating.
