CompositionBactrim DS Tablet is a combination antibiotic used to treat a range of bacterial infections, including those of the urinary tract, lungs (such as pneumonia), respiratory system, middle ear and certain intestinal infections.
It contains sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. They work together to block the folic acid that bacteria need to multiply, which clears the infection.
Take it with food, drink plenty of fluids to protect the kidneys, and complete the full course.
Tell your doctor about any kidney or liver disease, severe allergies, asthma, a blood disorder or a G6PD deficiency before use. Stop and seek help for any spreading skin rash or blistering, and note it is generally avoided in pregnancy.
