CompositionAtocor 20 Tablet is used to lower high cholesterol and triglycerides and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing atorvastatin 20mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called statins.
This medicine reduces the cholesterol made by the liver, lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides and raising HDL (good) cholesterol. It is also used to protect people at high risk of heart disease, and in children aged 10 and over with inherited high cholesterol. Take it once a day at the same time, with or without food, and continue even when your levels improve.
A diet low in saturated fat, regular exercise, keeping a healthy weight, limiting alcohol and not smoking support heart health. Avoid drinking large amounts of grapefruit juice.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, an underactive thyroid, kidney problems, muscle problems, diabetes, or drink a lot of alcohol, and about other medicines you take, especially certain antibiotics, antifungals, HIV medicines, ciclosporin and other cholesterol medicines. Your doctor may check your liver with blood tests. Report unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness, especially with fever or dark urine, straight away. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
