Zoxan Eye Ointment is a medicine used to treat superficial bacterial infections of the eye. It is commonly prescribed for conditions such as bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and corneal ulcers, helping to treat the infection and reduce the risk of complications.
It contains ciprofloxacin, which belongs to a group of medicines called fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It works by blocking bacterial enzymes necessary for DNA replication and cell division, leading to bacterial cell death.
Proper administration and hygiene form an important part of managing ocular infections. Wash your hands thoroughly before using the ointment, tilt your head back, and gently use a thin ribbon along the inside of the lower eyelid as directed by your healthcare professional.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any history of hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolone antibiotics or are using other ophthalmic treatments. To maintain sterility, avoid touching the tube tip to any surface including your eye, and wait at least fifteen minutes before reinserting contact lenses.
