Walamycin Suspension is used to treat certain bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract in children, including infective diarrhoea caused by susceptible bacteria. It works by eliminating harmful bacteria, reducing loose stools and infection-related symptoms. This medicine is often prescribed when other antibiotics are not effective, supporting recovery under medical supervision.

• To ensure the proper use of this medicine, follow the instructions given by your doctor regarding the dosage and duration.
• Before taking the medicine, carefully read the directions on the label. Use a measuring cup to measure the correct amount. Shake the bottle well before using the suspension.
• You can take Walamycin suspension with or without food, but it's recommended to take it at the same time daily for better results.

Walamycin suspension is typically administered orally. 

• When you take Walamycin suspension, it enters your body and travels to the site of the infection. The active ingredient, Colistin, targets the bacteria's outer layer, the cell membrane.
• Bacteria have a protective outer layer that keeps them alive and helps them function. Colistin disrupts this outer layer of the bacteria, causing it to become leaky and unstable. As a result, essential substances that bacteria need to survive, such as proteins and other vital molecules, start leaking out of the bacteria.
• By destabilising the bacterial cell membrane, Colistin effectively kills the bacteria or stops their growth. It helps to eliminate the infection and allows your body's immune system to fight off the remaining bacteria effectively.
• It is important to note that Colistin primarily works against certain types of bacteria and is specifically used when other antibiotics are ineffective. 

• Hygiene practices: Teach children the importance of proper handwashing by using soap and water, particularly before meals and after using the toilet. Encourage them to avoid touching their face, mouth, or eyes with unwashed hands to minimise the risk of infection.
• Balanced and nutritious diet: Offer a well-balanced diet that includes a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and dairy products. Ensure they drink plenty of fluids, such as water or diluted fruit juices, to stay hydrated.
