Valgan Tablet is used to treat cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis, an eye infection in adults with a weakened immune system, including those with AIDS. It also prevents CMV disease in adults who have had a kidney, heart or kidney-pancreas transplant from a CMV-positive donor.
It contains valganciclovir, an antiviral medicine that stops the CMV virus from multiplying. Take it with food to improve absorption, exactly as prescribed. Continue the full course as directed, as stopping too early may allow the infection to return.
Regular blood tests to check your blood cell counts and kidney function are an important part of treatment, so keep all follow-up appointments. Staying well hydrated can also help support your health.
Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, a low blood cell count, or are having radiotherapy. Tell your doctor promptly about unusual bruising or bleeding, fever, sore throat, or severe tiredness. Not suitable during pregnancy; effective contraception is advised during and after treatment.
