Shinoliv 300 Tablet is used to treat primary biliary cholangitis (previously called primary biliary cirrhosis), a long-term liver condition in which the small bile ducts are damaged, and to dissolve certain gallstones. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing ursodeoxycholic acid (ursodiol) 300mg, a bile acid.
This medicine improves the flow of bile and replaces harmful bile acids, helping protect the liver in primary biliary cholangitis. It can also slowly dissolve small cholesterol gallstones in people with a working gallbladder who are not suitable for surgery, which can take many months. Take it with food, as prescribed.
A balanced diet with moderate fat, keeping a healthy weight and avoiding alcohol support liver and gallbladder health. Avoid rapid weight loss, which can encourage gallstones.
This medicine is not suitable for gallstones that contain calcium or pigment, or when the gallbladder does not work properly or the bile duct is blocked. Do not take it if you have acute inflammation of the gallbladder or bile ducts. Leave at least 2 hours between this medicine and antacids containing aluminium or cholesterol-lowering resins, as they reduce its effect. Your doctor will check your liver blood tests regularly. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for severe pain in the upper right tummy, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
