CompositionPrimolut-N Tablet is used to treat menstrual problems such as heavy, painful or irregular periods. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing norethisterone 5mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called progestogens (female hormones).
This medicine is also used to manage endometriosis, absent periods, premenstrual symptoms and abnormal uterine bleeding, and to delay a period when advised by a doctor. It works in a similar way to the natural hormone progesterone to control the build-up and shedding of the womb lining. Take it exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Keeping a record of your periods and any bleeding can help your doctor review your treatment. Eating iron-rich foods may help if you have had heavy periods.
Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have had blood clots, a stroke or heart attack, liver disease, migraine, high blood pressure, or unexplained vaginal bleeding, and about other medicines you take. It is not a contraceptive, so use other contraception if needed. Seek medical help straight away if you have pain or swelling in one leg, chest pain, sudden breathlessness or a severe headache. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
