Nausetil Tablet is used to control severe nausea and vomiting, including with migraine, after surgery and during certain cancer treatments, and to relieve vertigo caused by inner ear balance disorders such as Meniere's disease. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing prochlorperazine 5mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called phenothiazines.
This medicine blocks dopamine in the part of the brain that controls sickness and balance. At higher doses, it is also used for schizophrenia and, for a short time, severe anxiety when other treatments are unsuitable. Take it with water, with or without food, exactly as prescribed, and for the shortest time needed for sickness and vertigo.
For vertigo, move slowly and avoid sudden head movements. During a migraine, resting in a quiet, dark room and sipping fluids may help.
This medicine can cause movement side effects, such as muscle spasms of the face, neck or eyes, restlessness or shaking, especially in young people and the elderly. It should not be used in children under 1 year, and older people with dementia have a higher risk of stroke and death with this type of medicine. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, glaucoma, liver or kidney disease, heart disease or difficulty passing urine. Avoid alcohol, and do not drive if drowsy. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek urgent medical help for high fever with severe muscle stiffness, confusion or sweating, a fast or irregular heartbeat, or uncontrollable movements. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
