Natamet Eye Drops 5ml is used to treat fungal infections of the eye, particularly fungal keratitis caused by susceptible fungi. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing natamycin, which belongs to the class of medications called polyene antifungals.
This medicine may also be used to treat susceptible fungal infections involving the conjunctiva or eyelids. Fungal keratitis is an infection of the cornea that can cause eye pain, redness, watering, blurred vision and sensitivity to light. Natamet Eye Drops 5ml works by binding to sterols in the fungal cell membrane, thereby inhibiting fungal growth.
Shake the bottle well before use and instil the medicine into the affected eye exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye, eyelids or other surfaces to prevent contamination. Do not wear contact lenses during an active fungal eye infection unless specifically advised by your ophthalmologist.
Complete the full course of treatment prescribed by your doctor, even if your symptoms begin to improve. Fungal eye infections can be serious and may damage the cornea if inadequately treated. Contact your doctor promptly if eye pain, redness, swelling or vision worsens, or if the infection does not improve during treatment.
