CompositionMetrohex Plus Gel is used to treat infections and inflammation inside the mouth, such as mouth ulcers, swollen gums and gum infections. It is a combination medicine containing chlorhexidine, metronidazole and lidocaine, which belong to the classes of antiseptic, antibacterial and local anaesthetic medicines.
This medicine also provides temporary relief from pain in the affected area of the mouth. It is for use inside the mouth only and must not be swallowed. Wash your hands, then gently apply the gel to the affected area as directed by your dentist or doctor, and avoid eating or drinking for a while afterwards. Use the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor or dentist, and continue for the full course advised even if your symptoms start to improve.
Good oral hygiene supports healing. Brush your teeth gently with a soft-bristled toothbrush and avoid very hot, spicy or acidic foods that may irritate the mouth while the ulcers or gum inflammation heal.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor or dentist if you are allergic to chlorhexidine, metronidazole, lidocaine or any other ingredient, and about any other medicines you take, including blood thinners. Ask your doctor for advice if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and check with the doctor before using it in a child. Avoid contact with the eyes, and be careful with very hot or cold food while your mouth feels numb. Report persistent irritation, tooth staining, a bitter taste that does not settle, signs of an allergic reaction or any unusual reaction to your doctor or dentist. Do not stop using this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
