Metrohex Plus Gel is a medicine used to treat infections and inflammation inside the mouth, such as mouth ulcers, swollen gums, and gum infections. It contains chlorhexidine, an antiseptic, metronidazole, an antibacterial agent, and lidocaine which together help reduce the bacteria responsible for these conditions and provides temporary local pain relief by numbing the affected area in the mouth.
This gel should be applied directly to the affected area inside the mouth as directed by your dentist or doctor, and should not be swallowed. Continue using it for the full course advised, even if your symptoms start to improve, to help fully clear the infection.
Good oral hygiene supports the healing process alongside this gel. Brush your teeth gently twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush, and avoid very hot, spicy, or acidic foods that may irritate the mouth while the ulcers or gum inflammation heal.
Tell your doctor or dentist if you have any known allergies to chlorhexidine, metronidazole, or other ingredients in this gel before use. Speak to your doctor if you notice persistent irritation, a bitter taste that does not settle, tooth staining, or any unusual reaction after using the gel.
