Melanocyl Tablet is used to treat skin pigmentation disorders such as vitiligo and psoriasis, alongside controlled ultraviolet (UV) light therapy. It is a single-ingredient psoralen medicine containing methoxsalen.
It makes the skin more sensitive to UV light, which stimulates the skin to produce pigment (melanin), so the skin gradually regains its natural colour and scaly, itchy or discoloured patches improve. Take it, usually a few hours before your light therapy session, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor.
Protect your skin and eyes from unplanned sun exposure. Wear UV-protective sunglasses if advised, cover exposed skin between doses and light sessions, and attend all light-therapy appointments.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have any skin conditions or eye problems, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Avoid extra sun exposure and follow your doctor's sun-protection advice carefully. Contact your doctor for severe skin redness, blistering or eye discomfort. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
