About Melanocyl Ointment 25Gm

Melanocyl Ointment is used to help restore skin colour in vitiligo, a condition that causes white patches on the skin. It is a combination medicine containing methoxsalen 0.75%, a psoralen that makes the skin sensitive to ultraviolet light, and aminobenzoic acid 2%, which helps protect the skin from sunburn.

This medicine is used together with carefully controlled exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet A (UVA) light, a treatment known as PUVA, which encourages pigment cells to produce colour again. Apply a thin layer only to the white patches, exactly as your dermatologist directs, and follow the advised exposure time strictly. Wash your hands after applying it. Repigmentation is gradual and may take several months.

Protect treated skin and your eyes from extra sunlight for the rest of the day, using clothing, a broad-spectrum sunscreen and UV-protective sunglasses. Avoid perfumes, deodorants and other cosmetics on treated skin, as they can increase sensitivity.
