Melanocyl Ointment is used to treat vitiligo, a condition where skin loses its pigment, by helping restore natural skin color through the activation of melanocytes. It also provides protection against sunburn and may reduce early signs of skin aging, supporting repigmentation and improving the appearance of affected areas.

Using Melanocyl Ointment is quite straightforward. Follow these simple steps:

• Make sure the affected skin area is clean and dry before application.

• Apply a thin film of the ointment to the affected area.

• Rub it in completely and allow it to dry before dressing.

• After 2 hours, expose the treated area to sunlight or UV light for a duration as advised by your doctor.

• Always wash your hands thoroughly after applying the ointment.

Melanocyl Ointment is applied topically.

Melanocyl Ointment contains two active ingredients:

• Methoxsalen (0.75%): This ingredient is part of a group of medicines called psoralens that increase the skin’s sensitivity to UV radiation. Methoxsalen intercalates into DNA, and upon being activated by UVA light, it forms adducts that stimulate melanocytes and increase pigment production.

• Aminobenzoic acid (2%): Known as PABA, this component absorbs UV light and stimulates melanocytes - the pigment-producing cells in your skin - thereby increasing skin pigmentation. PABA also provides some protection from UV light.

The combination of these two active ingredients, when used with controlled exposure to UV light, leads to gradual repigmentation of white patches caused by vitiligo.

• Store Melanocyl Ointment in a cool, dry place, ideally at room temperature between 20°-25°C.

• Keep it away from direct sunlight and extreme heat or cold.

• Ensure the tube is tightly closed to prevent air and moisture from entering.

• Always keep this medicine out of reach of children.

• Since Melanocyl Ointment is used for managing vitiligo, maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins (especially vitamin B12 and folic acid) can potentially aid in skin repigmentation.

• Regular mild exercises under controlled sunlight exposure can help stimulate melanocytes, the cells responsible for skin colour, enhancing the effect of the ointment. Always consult your doctor about the most suitable exercise routine and sun exposure levels for you.
