Melanocyl Solution is used to manage vitiligo, psoriasis, lichen planus, and atopic dermatitis. It is also helpful in conditions such as alopecia areata, photodermatitis, cutaneous mastocytosis, and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, helping reduce inflammation and control abnormal skin responses.

Apply Melanocyl Solution as directed below:

• Make sure the affected skin area is clean and dry before application.

• Use a cotton swab or small brush to apply the solution on the affected areas, avoiding normal skin and sensitive areas like eyelids, lips or the groin region.

• Allow the solution to dry completely and wait for 1-2 hours before exposing the treated area to UVA light under medical supervision.

• Wash your hands thoroughly after application to prevent accidental spread to other areas.

Melanocyl Solution contains methoxsalen (1%), which interacts with your body in the following ways:

• Penetration and Sensitization: Methoxsalen penetrates the skin upon topical application and sensitises it to UVA light.

• Activation and DNA Binding: Upon exposure to UVA light, methoxsalen gets activated and binds to the pyrimidine bases in DNA, forming cross-links between DNA strands.

• Inhibition of DNA Synthesis: The binding action of methoxsalen inhibits DNA synthesis, suppressing the excessive proliferation of skin cells seen in conditions like psoriasis.

• Stimulation of Melanocytes: Methoxsalen also stimulates melanocytes (pigment-producing cells), leading to increased pigment formation that helps repigment the white patches in vitiligo.

• Keep Melanocyl Solution stored below 30°C.

• Make certain it stays in a tightly sealed, light-resistant container.

• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, heat and moisture.

• Always keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

• Ensure you utilise the solution before its expiry date.

• If you are managing psoriasis with Melanocyl Solution, it's beneficial to include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. They help reduce inflammation and can be found in fish like Salmon and Mackerel.

• For those managing vitiligo, try to avoid foods that naturally contain psoralens such as celery, parsley, figs, and citrus fruits. These could potentially increase your skin's sensitivity to UV light.
