Composition

Benzalkonium Chloride (0.02 %) + Brimonidine (0.2 %) + Brinzolamide (1 %)

Maxbrim Eye Drops 5ml are used for the management of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. It is a combination medicine that belongs to a group of medications known as alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonists and carbonic anhydrase inhibitors.

The eye drops also play an essential role in reducing intraocular pressure (IOP). This reduction is achieved through two complementary mechanisms, making it an effective solution for maintaining optimal eye health.

Always instil these drops as directed by your doctor. Before starting this, inform your doctor of any pre-existing conditions or ongoing medications. Maxbrim Eye Drops 5ml are used for the following:

Management of open-angle glaucoma: This is a condition where the fluid in the eye does not drain properly, leading to a gradual loss of sight.
Control of ocular hypertension: This means high pressure inside the eyes that can damage the optic nerve and lead to vision loss.

Use Maxbrim Eye Drops 5ml as follows:

Shake the bottle well before use.
Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
Hold the dropper above your eye and squeeze out one drop.
Close your eye gently and press your finger to the inside corner of your eye for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining into your tear duct.
If you need to use another drop or a different type of eye medication, wait for at least 5 minutes before putting it.
Always remember to consult with your doctor for more specific instructions.

Brinzolamide (1%): Brinzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that reduces IOP by decreasing aqueous humour secretion. It works by selectively inhibiting the carbonic anhydrase II enzyme in the ciliary epithelium, which ultimately reduces bicarbonate ion formation and aqueous humour production.
Benzalkonium Chloride (0.02%): This ingredient acts as an antimicrobial preservative in the eye drops. It prevents microbial growth and contamination in the multi-dose container, ensuring the sterility of the solution.

CNS Depressants: Medicines such as diazepam or alprazolam may enhance the central nervous system effects of the brimonidine component in Maxbrim Eye Drops 5ml, possibly leading to increased drowsiness or sedation.
Antihypertensives/Cardiac Glycosides: Concomitant use with antihypertensives or cardiac glycosides such as digoxin may potentiate hypotension or bradycardia due to additive cardiovascular effects.
Tricyclic Antidepressants: Medicines such as amitriptyline may interfere with the intraocular pressure-lowering effect of brimonidine in Maxbrim Eye Drops 5ml, potentially reducing its efficacy.
