Macpod DT Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, including infections of the chest and airways, throat and ears, urinary tract, and skin. It belongs to a class of medicines called third generation cephalosporin antibiotics.
This medicine works by stopping bacteria from building their protective cell wall, which kills them. Take the dispersible tablet as your doctor prescribes, either swallowed or mixed in a little water as directed on the pack. Complete the full course even if you feel better early.
Antibiotics work only against bacterial infections and do not help with colds, flu, or other viral infections. Drink plenty of fluids and rest while you recover. Regular meals may help reduce stomach upset, and avoiding alcohol is sensible while you are unwell.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you are allergic to penicillin, cephalosporins, or other antibiotics, or if you have kidney problems or a history of bowel disease, and about all other medicines you take. Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Taking antibiotics when they are not needed, or stopping early, can lead to antibiotic resistance. Get urgent medical help for a severe rash, swelling of the face or lips, difficulty breathing, or severe or bloody diarrhoea.
