Lomofen Tablet 20

Lomofen Tablet is used in the following conditions:

• Diarrhoea management: It is commonly prescribed to treat and manage diarrhoea, both acute and chronic in nature. 
• Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD): It may be used to help control diarrhoea in individuals with inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
• Short bowel syndrome: It is sometimes used to reduce diarrhoea in individuals with short bowel syndrome, a condition where a significant portion of the small intestine is missing or nonfunctional.
• Bacterial infections: It can be used to address diarrhoea caused by certain bacterial infections. It has antibiotic properties and may help combat the underlying infection.

• Take the tablet with a glass of water.
• Swallow the tablet whole and do not chew, crush, or break it.
• It can be taken with or without food, but it is advisable to take it at a fixed time.
• Follow the dosage and duration prescribed by your doctor.
• Do not stop the treatment early, as it may lead to the return of symptoms and worsening of your condition.

Lomofen Tablet is taken orally.

Lomofen Tablet contains the following components: 

• Diphenoxylate (2.5 mg): It is an opioid receptor agonist, which means it acts on the same receptors as opioids in the gut. It slows down peristalsis (the digestive tract contractions) and reduces bowel motility, resulting in less frequent and firmer stools. It is the primary anti-diarrhoeal component in this medication. However, it is combined with atropine to discourage excessive use and potential abuse.
• Atropine (0.025 mg): It is an anticholinergic medication that works by blocking the action of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that regulates various bodily functions, including those of the gastrointestinal tract. By inhibiting acetylcholine, atropine reduces intestinal muscle contractions and secretions. Atropine is included in this medication to counteract the potential abuse and addiction associated with diphenoxylate, one of the other active ingredients. 
• Furazolidone (50 mg): It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that acts against various bacteria, including some that can cause gastrointestinal infections. It works by inhibiting the growth and replication of these bacteria. It helps to combat bacterial infections that may be contributing to the diarrhoea.

• Store this medicine at room temperature (15-25ºC).
• Protect it from light and moisture.
• Keep Lomofen Tablet away from children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.

• Diarrhoea can lead to dehydration. Drink plenty of clear fluids, such as water, clear broths, and oral rehydration solutions, to help replace lost fluids and electrolytes.
• Dairy products can exacerbate diarrhoea in some individuals. Limit or avoid milk, cheese, and other dairy items until your symptoms improve.
• Consider following the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast) initially, as these foods are gentle on the stomach and can help firm up stools.
• Spicy, greasy, and high-fiber foods can be irritating to the digestive system and may worsen diarrhoea. Opt for bland, easily digestible foods.
• Some people find that probiotic-rich foods or supplements may help restore a healthy balance of gut bacteria. Discuss with your doctor before starting probiotics.
• Diarrhoea can be physically draining. Ensure you get enough rest and allow your body to recover.
• Frequent handwashing with soap and water can help prevent the spread of infections that may lead to diarrhoea.
• Alcohol and caffeine can be dehydrating, so it's advisable to limit or avoid them while experiencing diarrhoea.
