NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 is used for:

Treatment of documented, life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias
Management of sustained ventricular tachycardia under specialist supervision

Take NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 exactly as prescribed by your doctor.
Swallow the capsule whole with water.
Do not crush, chew, or open the capsule.
Take doses at evenly spaced intervals to maintain stable blood levels.
Regular heart monitoring may be required during treatment.

NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 is intended for oral use.

NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 may cause the following side effects:

Dry mouth
Constipation
Difficulty in passing urine
Nausea
Abdominal pain, bloating, or gas
Low blood pressure
Worsening heart rhythm disturbances

Management Of Side Effects:

Most side effects of NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 are related to anticholinergic activity and may improve with dose adjustment.

Dry mouth: Sip water frequently or use sugar-free lozenges.
Constipation: Increase dietary fibre and fluid intake.
Urinary hesitancy: Inform your doctor promptly if difficulty persists.
Gastrointestinal discomfort: Taking doses with a light meal may help if advised by your doctor.

Seek immediate medical help if fainting, chest pain, or worsening arrhythmia occurs.

NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 contains the following active component:

Disopyramide (100 mg): Disopyramide is a Class IA antiarrhythmic agent. It works by blocking sodium channels in cardiac cells, thereby slowing electrical conduction, stabilising abnormal heart rhythms, and reducing excessive cardiac excitability. It also has anticholinergic properties that affect heart rate and conduction.

Pregnancy

NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the unborn baby. It has been associated with reduced fetal growth in animal studies and may stimulate uterine contractions.

Breastfeeding

Disopyramide passes into breast milk. Due to the risk of serious adverse reactions in the nursing infant, breastfeeding should be discontinued or the medicine stopped, as advised by the doctor.

Alcohol

Alcohol may worsen dizziness, low blood pressure, and heart rhythm disturbances. Avoid alcohol during treatment.

Liver

Liver impairment increases the elimination half-life of disopyramide. Dose reduction of NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 and careful electrocardiographic monitoring are required in patients with liver disease.

Kidney

More than half of disopyramide is excreted unchanged in urine. Kidney impairment can lead to accumulation and toxicity. Dose adjustment for NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 and discontinuation of ECG monitoring are essential.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 may cause dizziness, blurred vision, or faintness. Avoid driving or operating machinery if such symptoms occur.

Allergy

Do not use NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 in patients with known hypersensitivity to disopyramide. Seek immediate medical attention if rash, swelling, or breathing difficulty develops.

Children

Safety and effectiveness in paediatric patients have not been established. Use is not recommended.

Older Patients

Older patients may be more sensitive to anticholinergic effects and heart rhythm changes. Careful dose selection and monitoring are required.

Drug-Drug Interactions

NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 may interact with the following medicines:

Other antiarrhythmic agents (e.g., quinidine, procainamide): May increase the risk of serious rhythm disturbances and ECG changes.
Anticonvulsants (e.g., Phenytoin): May reduce disopyramide levels, leading to reduced effectiveness.
Macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin): May inhibit metabolism and increase toxicity risk.
Calcium channel blocker (CCB) (e.g., Verapamil): Concomitant use may increase the risk of cardiac depression and should be used with caution under medical supervision.
Antifungals (e.g., Ketoconazole): May increase blood levels due to reduced metabolism.

Drug-Disease Interactions

NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 may interact with the following conditions:

Heart failure or cardiogenic shock: May worsen cardiac output and blood pressure.
Glaucoma, myasthenia gravis, urinary retention: Anticholinergic effects may aggravate symptoms.
Hypoglycaemia: Disopyramide may induce or worsen low blood sugar, particularly in elderly patients or those with renal impairment.

Daily Dose

The dose of NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 is individualised by the doctor based on clinical response, heart rhythm, kidney function, and liver function. Do not adjust the dose without medical advice.

Over Dose

Overdose of NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 may lead to breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness, severe heart rhythm disturbances, or cardiac arrest. Immediate emergency medical care is required in suspected overdose cases.

Missed Dose

If a dose of NORPACE NEW CAPSULE 10 is missed, take it as soon as remembered. If it is close to the next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose.

Store below 25°C in a dry place.
Protect from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
Do not use after the expiry date.

Maintain adequate hydration unless restricted by your doctor.
Follow a heart-healthy, low-salt diet as advised.
Avoid self-medication and herbal supplements without medical approval.
Attend all scheduled cardiac monitoring appointments.
