By preventing the breakdown of acetylcholine, it allows muscles to receive stronger nerve signals, improving strength and reducing fatigue. It is also used to manage paralytic ileus and post-surgical urinary retention.
It contains pyridostigmine 180mg in a sustained-release tablet. Swallow it whole; do not crush, break, or chew it, as this alters the slow drug release important for sustained muscle support. Take it at the prescribed regular intervals throughout the day to maintain consistent muscle strength. Missing a dose can lead to a noticeable increase in muscle weakness.
Planning daily activities around periods of maximum medicine effect, attending regular neurology appointments, and having a rescue plan for myasthenic crisis all support management alongside this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any asthma, peptic ulcer, heart rhythm problems, or mechanical bowel or bladder obstruction, as the cholinergic effect may worsen these conditions. Tell your doctor immediately about any sudden worsening of muscle weakness or breathing difficulties. Speak to your doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
