CompositionFruselac DS Tablet is used to reduce fluid build-up (oedema) caused by heart failure, liver cirrhosis or nephrotic syndrome (a kidney condition). It is a combination medicine containing furosemide, a loop diuretic, and spironolactone, a potassium-sparing diuretic.
Furosemide helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water quickly, while spironolactone adds to this effect and helps prevent the loss of potassium. It is especially useful for swelling of the tummy (ascites) in liver disease. Take it in the morning, so you do not need to pass urine at night, exactly as prescribed.
Follow the salt and fluid advice from your doctor. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements unless your doctor advises, and weigh yourself regularly to track fluid changes.
Do not take this medicine if you have high potassium levels, severe kidney disease with little or no urine, or Addison's disease. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have diabetes, gout, or low sodium, and about all other medicines you take, especially ACE inhibitors, ARBs, potassium supplements, lithium, digoxin and painkillers. Your doctor will check your blood salts and kidney function. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you have muscle weakness or cramps, an irregular heartbeat, marked dizziness, extreme thirst, confusion or breast swelling. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
