Fluvir Oral Suspension is used to treat influenza (flu), including seasonal flu and swine flu (H1N1). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing oseltamivir, which belongs to the class of antiviral medicines.
This medicine is also used to help prevent influenza in people who have been in close contact with someone who has the flu. It is given by mouth and can be taken with or without food, although taking it with food may reduce stomach upset. Prepare the dry syrup as instructed on the label and measure each dose with the measuring device provided, not a household spoon. It works best when started soon after flu symptoms begin. Use the dose and duration prescribed by your doctor, and complete the full course even if you or your child feel better quickly.
Drinking plenty of fluids and getting enough rest can support recovery alongside this medicine.
Before starting this medicine, tell your doctor (or your child's doctor) about any kidney problems, long-term breathing problems or other medical conditions, and about any other medicines, supplements or herbal products being used. Ask your doctor for advice if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Watch closely for unusual changes in mood or behaviour, confusion or a severe skin rash, and contact the doctor straight away if they occur. Report any side effect that is persistent or serious to your doctor. Do not stop giving or taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
