Flagyl IV Injection is an antibiotic and antiparasitic used to treat serious bacterial and parasitic infections, including infections of the abdomen, gut, pelvic area, blood, bones and brain, and to help prevent infection after surgery.

It contains metronidazole. It works by damaging the DNA of the bacteria and parasites that thrive without oxygen, which kills them.

It is given as a drip by a doctor, who sets the dose and course. Do NOT drink alcohol during treatment and for at least 48 hours afterwards, as together they can cause flushing, a fast heartbeat and severe sickness.

Tell your doctor about any liver problems before use. It can give a metallic taste and darken the urine, which is harmless. Report numbness or tingling in the hands or feet, or fits.
