Febuvel 40 Tablet is used to manage gout in adults by lowering the level of uric acid in the blood. Keeping uric acid low helps prevent the painful joint swelling of gout attacks and protects the joints from long-term damage.
It contains febuxostat and belongs to a group of medicines that reduce the body's production of uric acid. It is taken regularly to keep uric acid levels down and is not a painkiller for a sudden attack. When you first start it, gout attacks can briefly become more frequent, so your doctor may add another medicine to cover this period. Continue taking it long term as prescribed.
Diet and lifestyle help alongside this medicine. These include limiting alcohol (especially beer), cutting down on foods high in purines such as red meat and shellfish, staying well hydrated, and maintaining a healthy weight.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have any heart, liver, or kidney problems, or are taking other medicines. Report any chest pain, skin rash, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before use.
