CompositionDilzem SR 90 Tablet 15 is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to prevent chest pain (angina). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing diltiazem 90mg in a sustained-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called calcium channel blockers.
This medicine relaxes the blood vessels and slows the heart rate a little, reducing the heart's workload and improving its blood and oxygen supply. The sustained-release tablet gives steady control through the day. Swallow it whole without crushing or chewing, at the same times each day, as prescribed.
Cutting down on salt, staying active within your limits, keeping a healthy weight, limiting alcohol and not smoking support heart health. Avoid grapefruit juice.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have a slow heartbeat or heart block, heart failure, very low blood pressure, or liver or kidney disease, and about other medicines you take, especially beta blockers, digoxin, statins, some antibiotics and antifungals. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you have a very slow pulse, fainting, marked dizziness, worsening breathlessness or ankle swelling. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
