Desval ER 500 Tablet is used to control seizures in epilepsy, help stabilise mood in bipolar disorder and help prevent migraine attacks. It is a single-ingredient anticonvulsant medicine containing valproate.
It is used in adults for these conditions. Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with food and do not crush or chew it. Take it in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop it suddenly without your doctor's advice, as this can trigger seizures.
A regular routine with good sleep, balanced meals and avoiding alcohol support your treatment.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have liver problems, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. This medicine can seriously harm an unborn baby and must not be used in pregnancy unless there is no alternative and a pregnancy-prevention plan is in place, so discuss reliable contraception with your doctor. Report yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe stomach pain, unusual bruising, or new or worsening low mood. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
